COMPASS IS JOINING THE YMCA!
The COMPASS Family Center is pleased to announce the next exciting phase in our continuing evolution as we join the YMCA of San Diego County's Youth and Family Services on March 1, 2012! Combining the Y's strength, experience and breadth with COMPASS' unique services and innovative methodology, means even more families caring for children with special needs will benefit from this vital program.
The Y is one of the largest and most respected nonprofits in San Diego County. The combined leadership of the Y and COMPASS envisioned the expanded possibilities created by merging COMPASS' programming and resources into YMCA Youth and Family Services. As a part of the Y, The Y’s COMPASS Services will continue to provide the same integrated continuum of services as before, with the added strength of the Y's reputation, resources and countywide span. COMPASS’ trained and knowledgeable staff will join the YMCA Youth and Family Service’s team to continue to provide:
- Comprehensive needs assessments using our copyrighted methodology to develop customized Family Action Plans;
- Special education advocacy services on a sliding fee scale with certified advocates trained at our program in partnership with USD;
- Family counseling and therapy; and
- Child and family-centered counseling at UCSD Pediatrics, as well as Pediatric Resident training focusing on the unique needs of families caring for a child with special needs.
We want to express our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to all of the community members who contributed their time, expertise and resources to allow COMPASS to grow to the point of reaching this important milestone. With their help, we have served hundreds of families in need in the last three years as an independent non-profit, in addition to many more since our initial inception at USD in 2002. We invite you to join us now in becoming a part of the Y’s even larger family as we continue our efforts to promote and support the well-being and empowerment of families caring for children with special needs.
